Exactly what is hypnotherapy?
Hypnosis involves you being gently led into a pleasantly relaxed state (sometimes known as trance) allowing you and I to work with your unconscious mind in order to address whatever you choose.
It is not something weird or scary. It is a bit like if you are watching TV and become totally focused or 'get lost' in a book. In this case though, the focus is on being very relaxed both mentally and physically.
It's ok to be nervous. Hypnotherapy is sometimes given a bad (or weird) press. But its just words. Words used in a positive way. If you think of how hurtful negative words can be and what an impact they can have; positive words can have an equal impact but the other (more positive) way.
Whilst deeply relaxed you will be able to hear everything that is said perfectly 'normally' but also with your unconscious / sub-conscious mind at the same time. This is where memories, reasoning and behaviour are stored and located along with your ability to learn.
By speaking to your unconscious mind in this calm relaxed way, we can address the issue you want to address and resolve any underlying issues with may come with it.
How do I start hypnotherapy?
Before your first session I will consult with you about what you are hoping to achieve, any concerns you have, anything you want me to know and what your requirements are.
This initial consultation is free of charge and can be via e-mail or phone.
What will happen in a session?
At the start of a session you will have the opportunity to tell me anything you want me to know, recap your goals or any updates and I will explain to you what I will do that day.
You will then make yourself comfortable and relax. This can be with eyes open or closed and in any position you like. I will lead you deep into relaxation and once you are very relaxed I will address the issue you have sought help for.
At the end of the session I will give you some techniques to try by yourself between sessions and you will have the opportunity to ask any further questions you may have.
Will I be out of it and not remember anything?
No, you will be in a state of deep comfortable relaxation and therefore susceptible to hearing and 'taking in' information. This is how it is possible to guide you down the path YOU have chosen and alter whatever behaviour/feelings you wish to change. But you will also be able to get up and walk out of the room at any time should you wish.
Could I be made to do something I don't want to do?
Absolutely not! They only way changes can be made using hypnotherapy is because consciously and subconsciously you want them to happen. I could never make you do anything you did not want to do. I am facilitating your wishes, you are still always in control and can come out of hypnosis at any time you choose.
How long will it take?
All humans are different and different issues take varying lengths of time to address in different people. I will tell you how long I anticipate treatment taking in your individual circumstances. You are of course never obliged and after one, two or more sessions you wish therapy to stop, that is fine. Never any pressure.
I need to have someone with me, is that ok?
Of course. Just let me know before you arrive so they have somewhere to sit!
